Oedenreuth

ÜbersichtAmong all the villages which are today joined together with Roßtal in a common district Oedenreuth had had only loose ties with Roßtal in its history.
In the course of time, Oedenreuth changed its name and it was known as Kleinreuth or Ebenreuth until about 1700.

Oedenreuth was a feoff of the bishopric of Bamberg until the beginning of the 19th century. The first known vassal was Jobst Heinrich von Roggenbach who died in 1658. He was succeeded by his son Georg Engelhard Roggenbach, which is documented in the church register, because he donated a still existent communion cup in 1659. At the end of the 17th century, the estate of Oedenreuth was vacant, the reason, however, is not recorded: either Georg Engelhard Roggenbach's son Georg Carl died without a successor or he refused the foeff.

From 1700 until 1738 Johann Christoph von Lemp and his sons obtained the feoff of the bishopric of Bamberg.

After a vacancy of more than two years, Oedenreuth and its estate was given to Balthasar Christoph Kreß, but soon part of the estate was sold to the family Kreß von Kressenstein who was finally granted all the feoff in 1826. Twenty years later, secularization ended all feudal duties and the small manor house was bought by the "court gardener" Georg Weiß from Oedenreuth, whose family still owns the house until these days.

Today, only the local inn named "Kressenhof" indicates the last noble proprietor of the feoff of Oedenreuth.
