WHEREAS, the Community of Frankenmuth was founded by immigrants from the Province of Franken, Germany in 1845; and
WHEREAS, eight of Frankenmuth's fifteen founding settlers came from Rosstal; and
WHEREAS, over twenty-five Rosstal residents immigrated to Frankenmuth in 1846 with the second group of settlers; and
WHEREAS, the Frankenmuth Sesquicentennial Committee during the 150th Anniversary of the founding of Frankenmuth recommended that a street in Frankenmuth should be named Rosstal Street in honor of the origin of many of Frankenmuth's early settlers; and
WHEREAS, Edgewater Street was recommended because of its close proximity to downtown Frankenmuth, the Historic District and the Frankenmuth Historical Museum and also because it was considered the safe and "high ground" above the edge of the downtown area that was flooded annually until a dike was built along the Cass River in 1953; and
WHEREAS, the Frankenmuth City Council unanimously approved a resolution on September 5, 1995 to officially change the name of Edgewater Street to Rosstal Street; and
WHEREAS, Erster Bürgermeister, Maximilian Gaul and a fortyfive member delegation from Rosstal will visit Frankenmuth on June 2, 1997 for the official Rosstal Street Dedication; now, therefore
BE IT PROCLAIMED, that June 2, 1997 is hereby designated "ROSSTAL DAY" in Frankenmuth; and
BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED, that all citizens in Frankenmuth are urged to join in this street dedication and extend a warm and friendly welcome to all our friends from Rosstal.
